Tracking down Notorious Marks on the Hunt Board forms a core part of the late-game experience and progression in Final Fantasy XVI. Among the earliest Rank C targets available to Clive is Aruna, higher known as The Angel of Death. Locating and vanquishing this airborne monster provides key crafting materials and essential experience to help strengthen your character.

Unlocking and Tracking the Hunt Target

The Angel of Death hunt becomes available once players unlock access to the Hunt Board after progressing past key early story milestones. Unlike standard side quests, the target does not place a direct destination marker on your main world map. Players must rely on the clues provided in the description board to track down the creature in the wild.

To locate Aruna, fast travel to the Northreach obelisk located in the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. Head southwest out of the town settlement and travel directly toward the expansive open field area known as Claireview. As you traverse the center of this field, you will spot the winged creature hovering above the landscape.

Combat Overview and Enemy Mechanics

Aruna is a level 27 airborne enemy that shares a very similar move set with the harpy-style enemies encountered in earlier story areas. Her attacks primarily feature wind elemental projectiles, charging swoops, and broad wing swipes. Observing her animation wind-ups allows you to anticipate physical strikes and react accordingly with timely dodges.

When Aruna prepares a magic attack, a green path indicator will briefly light up on the ground in front of her. Evade out of this designated path immediately to avoid taking heavy damage from her wind blasts. She frequently follows up this spell with a rapid wing slash or a vertical downward kick.

Effective Battle Strategies and Rewards

Maintaining close proximity to Aruna allows you to continuously inflict physical damage while reacting to her telegraphed attacks. Equipping Garuda's Eikonic abilities is particularly effective for rapidly draining her stagger gauge and pulling her down to earth. Once the target is fully staggered, unleash your highest damage Eikonic skills from Phoenix or Ifrit to deplete her health pool.

Defeating this mark rewards players with 350 Experience Points, 40 Ability Points, 6,200 Gil, and 10 Renown. Additionally, you will receive a Clouded Eye crafting material, which is critical for forging powerful gear upgrades at the Blacksmith. Successfully clearing this encounter ensures Clive remains well-equipped for future challenges throughout Valisthea.
