Smith Wins Indy Mile

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 28, 2010) - History was made on the fabled Indiana State Fairgrounds mile oval as Kawasaki / Monster Energy / Werner-Springsteen Racing's #42 Bryan Smith captured the first AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com Twins Main event in a hard fought, twenty five lap battle.Lancaster Harley-Davidson / Dallas Fort Worth Honda's Chris Carr grabbed the early lead from series points leader #3 Joe Kopp on his Latus Harley-Davidson / ENI USA R&M backed Ducati, then repeated the feat as the race was red flagged on lap three, when Stevie Bonsey fell in turn three.Carr picked up where he left off, but now Smith and Zanotti Racing's #5 Jake Johnson were right behind. On lap six Smith took control, but White's Harley-Davidson / SNIP's Matt Weidman was up high on the cushion and flying to the front. Unfortunately for Weidman, when the high line went away, he backed up as fast as he had come forward. As the race reached the mid-point it became a two rider race. Smith and Carr went back and forth several times, but as the laps wound down Smith took control. The race would end with Carr just over a tenth of a second out. "I've been dreaming about this all year," said Smith. "And it wasn't a nightmare either. I was sure, as soon as we got to these tracks with long straight-aways, the Kawasaki's power was let us finally win one.""I just couldn't draft him (Smith)," said Carr. "I could get close, but he just had too much power."
Harley-Davidson Motor Company's Kenny Coolbeth brought his #2 Harley-Davidson home third over two seconds off the lead.
Johnson took control of fourth and rode home a lonely three seconds off the pace. King's Kustoms / KK Motorcycle Supply's Sammy Halbert finished an uneventful fifth as Joe Kopp made a late race pass of Rookie of the Year front runner, Moroney's 1-800fasthog.com's #99B PJ Jacobsen.Defending Series Champion # 1 Jared Mees work his way up to fourth before sliding back to an eighth place finish. It was another eight seconds back to Matt Weidman. The K&N Filter's dash for Cash saw Chris Carr dominate as points leader Joe Kopp suffered a blow to his points total when he couldn't get his Ducati to fire and he received no points. Sammy Halbert and Bryan Smith rounded out the podium as all three received "Special Edition, Nicky Hayden watches."

TT WIN FOR MAGIC MASON

Round 6 of the Pozzani Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship saw Richard Mason take the honours of the most exciting TT racing ever seen in ShorttrackUK's history. The TT which is run once year as part of the Championship, involves right and left hand bends with a jump and the riders do all this without a front brake!

Championship series leader, Ade Collins who saw two opportunities to qualify pass him by and faced the first of three sudden death heats to keep his championship lead intact in the third qualifier, headed home Ben Baker to finally cement a semi-final position.
The semis were hugely competitive. Edward Kennett stormed to victory in the first Semi Final, from the impressive Darren Trapmore (who earlier had held off the most determined riding of Pocklington and three-times STUK title-winner and reigning European and Italian Flattrack champ, Marco Belli to win the lucrative ‘Dash for Cash’) with Pocklington and Belli keeping Collins out of the Final places.  Next up was slow-burner Richard Mason who was clearly coming into form at exactly the same time leading home Haith and the other Italian, Jacopo Monti.  An early race fall for Boast though meant there was the extraordinary situation of the 2009 champ and the 2010 champ-elect facing up to the Last Chance race.

Boast and Collins successfully negotiated that and the stage was set for a Grand Final like none ever before!
Again it was Kennett with lightning reactions at the start but in the first Steeplechase approach the 23-year-old slightly went out of shape –just the chance Belli (winner of the inaugural King’s Lynn based TT back in 2007) needed to snatch the lead.  Next lap in an energy-crunching ten circuit race, it was Derbyshire dynamo Mason working his magic somehow to dive under first Kennett and then the Italian – and with Belli tumbling out of contention in a close quarters jump incident with Kennett and Mason two laps later, Mason was able to pull away and emerge as a deserved winner.  Kennett took second; and working his way brilliantly through the field and belying his early meeting problems, reigning TT champ Collins was delighted to finish in the third rostrum position.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (August 8, 2010) - Last seen in California, seven days and 2800 miles later the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com picked up once again at the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Series points leader Joe Kopp was determined to have a better night this week after a brutal get off on the west coast. "It's not like I was broke in half or anything, but I'm still pretty sore," said Kopp. "This was a great race. It was a lot of fun dueling with Kenny (Coolbeth), we went back and forth for a long time."
It was a lot more fun for the Latus Harley-Davidson / ENI USA backed Kopp as he pulled to nearly a one-second lead over the Harley-Davidson Motor Company's Kenny Coolbeth. The two former Grand National Champions and former teammates kept the large crowd entertained after a couple of aborted starts.
The first attempt to get the 25-lap National under way only lasted to the first turn, where Zanotti Racing's Jake Johnson crashed right in front of the pack. Scott Powersports' Johnny Lewis and Dave Burks Motorsport's Mick Kirkness were collected in the mess. All three riders would make the restart, however Johnson was on his backup Harley-Davidson.
The next try lasted two laps before last week's winner and this week's fast qualifier Stevie Bonsey fell in turn three. Bonsey was uninjured, but unable to make the restart.
Thus far Coolbeth had gotten the hole shot every time and the third time was no different. Kopp was close behind and looking for any kind of space to make a move. Snedeker Racing's Rob Pearson was having a great ride in third until the 10th lap, when defending Twins Champion Jared Mees pushed his Rogers Lake Racing / Blue Springs Harley-Davidson onto the podium.
Coolbeth and Kopp "officially" exchanged the lead at the line three times, but there was passing going on all around the track. Kopp finally took over for good on lap 20.
Pearson's fourth place came into jeopardy late in the race as Kings Kustoms' Sammy Halbert and the Kawasaki Monster Energy / Werner-Springsteen Kawasaki of Bryan Smith closed to within a half second, but that would be the finish order.
Johnson regrouped to finish a strong seventh over KK Motorcycle Supply's Henry Wiles, Kirkness and Lancaster Harley-Davidson's Brandon Robinson.

Progress With Plans for 2011
We are still in talks with Silverstone at the moment about a Shorttrack meeting next year to be run alongside the MotoGP. We are putting forward a suggestion for the location of the track, so it can be used for training and other activites during the week. We initially looked at an area outside the main gp track but now we are thinking the infield would be a better place. We hope to be having more discussions shortly and then will have more news on that.

We are looking at spliting into two Championships for 2011. We would like to make Club/Amateur Championship, where we would be able to make more classes  such as  novice, restricted, pro, thunders, two junior classes and mini bikes. It would be over 6 to 8 rounds and we hope that this would encourage new riders to the sport.

The second Championship will be the British Grand National Flattrack Championship, which would be 4 to 5 rounds and focused on getting more fans to watch our sport. We will run one main class and maybe two support classes but no novices. We hope to get some sponsors on board and support for the event so we can offer a purse for the main event.

We are also planning two indoor events at Braintree. We will run the Christmas one again as it was a great success but we are also hoping to run one in February at the same venue. This will be a world team event, with riders from the UK, Holland, Italy, Germany, Australia and the USA. There will be support classes to both the indoor events.

FORMER MOTO GP RIDER STEVE BONSEY WINS AT CALISTOGA,CA

CALISTOGA, Calif. (August 1, 2010) - AMA Pro Racing returned flat track to Northern California as the K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com Series came to the Napa County Fairgrounds and the Calistoga Speedway Half Mile.
Fittingly the huge, standing room only crowd was thrilled by a win by one of their own. Salinas, California's Stevie Bonsey pushed his #80 Dodge Brothers / Johnny Goad backed Harley-Davidson to his first ever Grand National win. Having returned from the MotoGP wars, Bonsey has had limited seat time on the big twins, but is proving to be a quick study. "This is just unbelievable, these guys are so fast and a lot of them were my heroes growing up," said Bonsey as the thrill started to sink in.
One of his early heroes, #4 Lancaster Harley-Davidson's Chris Carr had led the first four laps of the 25 lap National, but #7 Sammy Halbert took over there and had his Kings Kustoms Harley-Davidson in the lead for the next twelve laps, Bonsey was on the move as he slipped around Carr on lap thirteen and quickly closed on the leader.
As this was going on #5 Zanotti Racing's Jake Johnson and Defending AMA Pro National Twins Champion #1 Jared Mees (Rogers Lake Racing / Blue Springs Harley-Davidson) were also closing down, making it a five rider freight rain.
Once Bonsey was by on lap seventeen he eventually put a one second gap on Halbert as Sammy had his hands full with Jake Johnson. "That was the longest race of my life," said Bonsey. "After I saw the five to go board it just took forever."
But the race was his and all eyes focused on the battle for second. Johnson took one last charge and tried to go under Halbert in turn three only to have Halbert shoot back by on the exit of turn four and second belonged to the early leader.

POZZANI SILKOLENE SHORTTRACK UK ROUND 5

COLLINS TAKES THIRD WIN AT BUXTON

Ade Collins takes a comanding lead in Pozzani Silkolne Shorttrackuk championship with a fine win in Round 5 of the championship.
Ade was in fantastic form and sailed through the heat races and semi finals, giving him pole for the Grand Final. Next to Ade was 17 year old Ben Baker who won Semi 2, with the previous round's winner Italian Jacopo Monti and CCM works rider Tom Woolley rounded out the front row of 12 rider final.
Collins holeshotted the H M Plant Honda with Monti hard on his tail. The dusty, hard packed track made it difficult to pick the rest of the riders out as they completed the first lap. By lap 4 Collins still had the lead from Monti, who was closely followed by Woolley with 4th taken by Darren Trapmore on the Kinrade Honda , but lap 5 saw Richard Mason take a heavy fall down on turn 3 which brought out the red flags.
The restart was a line out and once again Collins did not make a mistake and lead the pack. There was a challenge for 3rd with Trapmore getting the better of Woolley followed by Marco Belli, Ben Baker and Glyn Pocklington banging handle bars.
With 3 laps left Collins was begining to pull away from Monti, Tom Woolley had re past Trapmore and the mid- pack was still a freight train of riders wheel to wheel battling in a dust cloud.
Ade Collins continued his perfect ride and took his 3rd Grand Final win of the season, second was Monti and a well deserved 3rd went to 16 year old Tom Woolley.

Kopp won on a Harley, not his Ducati. Smokin' Joe obviously knows what he's on about because only two non-XR750s made it to the main and they were Kawasakis. Jake Johnson was second, Coolbeth third, Sammy Halbert fourth, his brother Jethro was 11th. Chris Carr had the fastest lap and finished sixth. Brandon Robinson's rehabilitation passed another milestone as he made the main on his big bike.

The Italian Monti who made the long trip to Stoke from his home town of Tradate in Italy was in blistering form. He won his heat races and Semi final to put himself on pole for the Grand Final. The winner of the other Semi and Championship leader Ade collins was next to him. Also on the front row were last year's champ Peter Boast and 3 times UK Champ Marco Belli.
It was Monti who made the hole shot from Collins and Boast, with Belli 4th and 16 year Tom Woolley in 5th. The pack went past to complete lap one but by lap two the red flags came out as Richard "magic"Mason had one of his less magic moments and highsided coming out of turn 4 and took a couple of other riders out. A restart took place and once again Monti made no mistake by getting the hole shot but this time Collins was pushing Monti hard for the lead. By lap 2 Belli had got the better of Boastie and 5th and 6th spots were taken up by the young guns of Ben Baker and Tom Woolley.
By lap 6 Monti and Collins had left the pack with Collins putting pressure on Monti and back in third Boast was putting force on Belli, Woolley had got past Barker and Darren Trapmore moved up to 7th spot. As the laps wound down Jacopo Monti began to ease away from Collins and the battle for third had become a three way dice with Belli, Boast and now Tom Woolley was pressuring the pair.
Jacopo Monti made no mistakes and took the chequered flag for his first UK Championship win from H M Plant Honda rider Aidan Collins, with Marco Belli hanging on to 3rd for the last spot on the podium.

MARCO BACK TO HIS WINNING WAYS

Round 3 Pozzani Silkolene Shorttrack at Amman Valley, Wales.
Marco Belli gave the Italian Zaeta machine it's first win on English soil, by winning Round 3 of the Pozzani Silkolene Shorttrack Championship. Three times Champion Marco said 'This is one of the best wins I've ever had, the final wash as tough as it gets. The 1/2 mile lime stone track was so demanding and the best riders in Europe were all in the Final. I'm so happy!'
In the Grand Final Aidan Collins got the hole Shot on his HM Plant Honda and lead the first lap, but then Marco took the lead on the second lap. Behind them it was 16 year old Tom Woolley 3rd, another Italian Jacopo Monti 4th, then American Levi Mayer 5th and the previous days' Mefo Cup winner Richard Mason rounding out the top 6.
Places were changing every lap and the rider most on the move was Jacopo Monti - on lap 6 he passed Collins and was in second closing on Belli. Woolley and Mason were battling for 4th and 5th, speedway star Kennett and Peter Boast had overhauled Levi Mayer.
As the laps wound down Belli was still under pressure from Monti and Collins, Mason had got clear of Woolley for 4th spot, Boastie was pulling in Kennett and just behined him was Darren Trapmore on the Kinrade Honda.
On the last lap Monti tried making a move on Belli and ran wide, leaving room for Collins to slip past but it was Marco who crossed the line on the back wheel for first place, from Collins and Monti holding on to last podium spot.

AIDAN COLLINS GIVES H M PLANT HONDA THEIR FIRST VICTORY AT ROUND 1

The Norfolk Arena hosted Round 1 of the 2010 POZZANI SILKOLENE SHORTTRACK UK CHAMPIONSHIP, which saw Aidan Collins take a start to finish victory on his new 2010 H M Plant Honda CRF 450. Aidan had won his semi and was on pole for the Grand Final, with the winner of the other semi - Glyn Pocklington - next to him on the H4U KTM, CCM's Tom Woolley and Tim Greig on the ASR Honda 450 completed the front row of the grid.
The tapes went up with 12 grand final riders all fighting to get on that blue groove at the first bend. Aidan made no mistakes and hit the front, followed by Pocklington, Woolley, Richard Mason, Marco Belli, Greig, Darren Trapmore, Kevin Doolan, Geoff Baldock, Pete Boast, Derek Brindley and Rusty Hodgson.
The freight train of riders traded places, lap 4 saw Zeata's Marco Belli move up two places into third and Boastie and Brindley were moving up through the field.

Collins was getting away from Pocklington by lap eight but behind him Marco was pulling back the gap to second, 16 year old Woolley was holding onto 4th but had a big frieght train of 8 riders behind him trying to make their move.
Going into the last couple of laps Aidan had 5 bike lengths lead over Glyn "Cowboy" Pocklington and in turn Glyn had the same amount over Marco but the battle behind was intense with Tom still holding off Mason,Trapmore,Greig, Boastie,Brindley and Baldock.
The chequered flag dropped for Aidan giving the first victory in Shorttrack to a works supported Honda in front of his new team Boss Neil Tuxworth, a fine second went to Glyn and the 3 times Champ Italian Marco Belli grabbed the last spot on the rostrum.

TIM NEAVE TAKES THE JUNIOR WIN

As the Junior class begins to grow, the standard of racing is improving, none more so than Tim Neave who took victory with three wins including the double points race on Sunday. However, the most entertaining race of the day was heat two, where Oliver Brindley held Tim off for 4 laps. Tim tried everything and even got past at one point but Oliver regained the place and took victory in that one. It was also great day for Loris Hunt who finished up with a fine third place overall.
Tom Schmit was awarded Silkolene Rider of the Day, as after having a big crash in his first race he continued to ride and got two 3rds and 7th.

AIDAN GETS HM PLANT HONDA RIDE

There is great news for Ade Collins and Shorttrack UK, in that Honda are behind the sport for the 2010 season! Aidan, who was second in the 2009 Championship, will this season be riding a 2010 HM Plant Honda CRF450. The boss of Honda racing UK Neil Tuxworth said " We are looking forward to a great season supporting Aidan. When we helped Chris Carr out at the final round of the STUK Championship last year, we were impressed with the progress of the sport and are confident that Aidan will be a great ambassador for Honda and Shorttrack UK ".
Neil is very busy with the BSB team but he hopes to get to some of the meetings, including the first round and the hlaf mile track at Amman Valley.

There was a great turn out of riders for Press and Practice day at King's Lynn on Sunday. A total of 36 riders blew the winter cobwebs away, including many new riders to shorttrack. For more pics go to www.stevenbaldockphotography.webs.com

Braintree winner Kennett to race Shorttrack Championship

International speedway rider Edward Kennett has got the Shorttrack bug and although he has got a very hetic speedway season in front of him, he is hoping to fit as many Shorttrack Championship rounds in as he can, providing they don't clash with his speedway fixtures. Eddy hopes to be riding a 2008 Honda 450 which he will be getting converted into shorttrack spec in the next few weeks. There is no doubt that he will be a very strong contender after proving his skill to adapt to Shorttrack at Braintree!

Two of our riders made the long trip to Daytona to compete in the flat track racing, here are the pics and results from their trip.
SAVANNAH'S banked, 1/2 mile clay, fast oval, was the first event on the list. Boastie rode in the 450 Pro Class and managed to get through to the semi's, where he moved up through the field from 11th on the first lap to 4th by the finish, but unfortunately it was only winner who transfered to the main. Chris Carr was on top form in the Twins class and won by a good distance from Kenny Coolbeth who won the Pro Singles Final.
The Amateurs Winter National Event was held at the new Daytona track, with England's Tim Greig riding all 3 days. Tim had some excellent rides, with couple of wins in his class and finishing 3rd in the +30 Class and 4th in the +40 classes overall for the series.
The Velousia County 1/2 mile All Stars Event was run on Monday 1st and it was Jared Mees who was on top of the box with wins in the Twins Final and the Singles.
The Grand National Championship nights were both held at the New Daytona track on 3rd /4th March. Pete had gone to try to qualify for the night event but it went all wrong for our Number 1 when he had big highside in practice and damaged his shoulder and ribs. He tried to ride the next night but the pain was too much and he pulled out after first practice. 77 Pro riders turned up, with only 32 places up for grabs and just two 4 lap sessions to make the cut, there were a lot of disappointed riders. (don't worry - we won't run that format in the uk !)
On the first night Sammy Halbert won his first Singles Championship race and looked like he wouldn't be beaten the next night but it went wrong for Sammy when he crashed at the first corner. That left Jake Johnson, Joe Kopp, Kenny Coolbeth, Henry Wiles, John Lewis and Jared Mees to battle it out. As the laps wound down it was Jake Johnson who had the lead going into the last lap of the 25 lap final and he crossed the line on the back wheel from Kenny Coolbeth and Jared Mees. Just to prove how fast the pace was, Chris Carr finished 2nd from last and nearly got lapped!
